Pride of Place: Building Kenyan Policing From the Bottom Up

Most Kenyan’s distrust or fear police officers, yet examples of meaningful community policing can be found. Based on instances of good practice collected from three police stations in Nairobi, Kenya in August 2016, this ICT4COP policy brief by Prof. Alice Hills of Durham University identifies three key observations that may apply to police-community engagement elsewhere in Eastern Africa. Prof. Hills finds that good policing practice comes down to the personal integrity and commitment of the officer, and not necessarily the policing models under which they operate.
